The Fintech x Football Revolution Continues

With the latest season of Europe’s elite football leagues kicking off in mere weeks, we’re soon to see a whole host of new fintech partnerships taking effect – with some of the biggest names in football and fintech coming together both on and off the pitch.

Recent years have seen a surge in fintech x football partnerships, fundamentally changing the sponsorship landscape, and redefining the depth at which typical sports collaborations operate.

Clubs across Europe are utilising the transformational power of fintech to modernise stadiums, streamline international business, and more meaningfully reward fans for their loyalty.

Cremello Currency x IFK Goteborg

Just this week, Cremello Currency announced the latest expansion to their portfolio of deals with top football clubs – this time, heading north to the Swedish top flight with IFK Goteborg.

Cremello Currency x IFK Goteborg

Cremello partners up with one of Sweden’s most historic football clubs as the Official Foreign Exchange Partner, and will deploy their expertise in international payments to improve Goteborg’s operations across player transfers, supplier transactions, and other cross-border exchanges.

In an increasingly international game, Cremello will hope to show what a dedicated foreign exchange partner can bring to the table, as they provide expert support, security, and operational efficiency to Goteburg.

It’s a statement of intent from the Swedish club, as the Swedish league looks to re-establish itself as an ever-present in top European competitions such as the Champions League and Europa League. Recent seasons have seen neighbours Norway eclipse them as the most prominent Scandinavian nation in European football.

IFK Goteborg are the 3rd football team in the Cremello Currency network, joining English clubs Hull City and Millwall.

Revolut x Como 1907

Revolut have added another team to their significant football presence by securing a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Italian Serie A side Como 1907.

From the start of the 26/27 season, Revolut will be front-and-centre of Como’s matchday kits, securing highly lucrative ad space in one of the most prestigious football leagues on the planet.

The partnership brings together two organisations who have had a remarkable rise in recent years, and expands upon last season’s partnership, where Revolut was the FX and Banking Partner.

Revolut x Como 1907

Having risen from obscurity, Como are now an established Serie A team managed by football legend Cesc Fabregas and have a number of young and exciting players in their squad, which will be making its first foray into European football next season.

Revolut hardly need an introduction. One of the biggest fintechs in the world, they have established themselves as a household name and have an extensive presence across the world’s highest profile sports, including football and formula 1.

The partnership with Como will see Revolut’s payments infrastructure integrated into the club’s operations, in foreign exchange, stadium and matchday systems, and fan rewards such as discounted tickets and merchandise.

The deal is a reflection of the changing sponsorship landscape in Italy’s Serie A, as fintech partnerships that offer service integration and operational modernisation replace brand deals based on commercial visibility.

Having fallen behind other top European leagues as they modernise faster, deals such as these will enable Serie A clubs begin bridging the financial and infrastructural gap.

Newcomers Make a Splash as the Checkout.com Corporate Padel League Returns

After a brief hiatus, the Checkout.com Corporate Padel League returned this week as several new teams made their much anticipated debuts.

The new faces were in for mixed fortunes as they took to the court for the first time, coming up against veterans of the league who are ready to give it their all for another shot at the title.

Fox Williams made an emphatic statement in their match against Funding Circle, taking both sets in a clean sweep victory. They will be full of confidence going into the rest of the season having banked their first 3 points at the first attempt.

The landing was less smooth for Banking Circle, as their debut match ended in a defeat to league veterans Global-E - but they still left the court with an important point on the board, after narrowly missing out by 2 sets to 1.
